The Lake Shore Limited

The Lake Shore Limited was originally a New York Central RR passenger train that ran from 1897 to 1956 on the Water Level Route from New York City to Chicago's Lasalle Street Station. The Lake Shore Limited was a precursor to the 20th Century Limited, which the New York Central Ran from 1902 to 1967.

New York Penn / Chicago Union Station service along the Water Level Route was retained with the formation of Amtrak in 1971. The Lake Shore Limited name was revived in 1975 along with the connecting section at Albany to Boston.
