Silver Meteor: Sanford, FL
Sandford, FL is the southern terminus of Amtrak's Auto Train service from Lorton, VA. The Auto Train originated as a private service in 1971, the same year as the formation of Amtrak. Attempts to expand the service with a line to Louisville financially destabilized the company and private Auto Train service ended in 1981. Amtrak revived the Lorton-Sanford route in 1983.
