East Drive north of the Boathouse near 76th Street
This sculpture of a mountain lion is by Edward Kemeys (1843 - 1907), who began sculpting while working as an axe-man on one of the engineering corps that built Central Park. Kemeys specialized in works depicting wild animals. This sculpture was cast locally at the Maurice J. Powers foundary and given to the city in 1883. It was relocated to this natural rock outcropping at the crest of Cedar Hill in 1937 and had its vandalized tail restored in 1988. (reference)
