Central Park Lake is a 22-acre artificial body of water that sits in the center of the park just south of the Ramble between 72nd and 77th streets. Paddleboats are for rent during the summer. The lake usually freezes over in winter and although there are photographs from the 19th century of people skating on the lake, the weather rarely stays cold enough long enough to freeze thick enough for safe winter sports.
