Mule Trail

A number of the photos in this album contain text references to a construction project called the "Mule Trail," which opened to traffic on Christmas Eve, 1951. Robert Epstein made a post on the Korean War Project website describing the Mule Trail as the "claim to fame" of the 74th Engineering Combat Battalion that was "4.5 miles of road side cut out of the mountain, in 13 days." He also indicated that the battalion was "bivouacked next to the Red Devils, foot of Hill 1062," which is consistent with photo notes referencing Hill 1062.
