Lamar University, 1982
Beaumont, TX
I was an engineering major at Lamar University for my freshman year in one of the poorer strategic choices of my life. It was a nondescript regional comprehensive school and wasn't a bad place, just a really bad fit. But I was 17 and didn't know any better.
One of my most distinct memories was the Olin sulphuric acid plant immediately behind the football stadium adjacent to campus. Legend had it that occasionally the emissions would peel car paint and melt women's nylon stockings. However, all I ever experienced was the distinct odor, which couldn't have been good, but, as of this writing 36 years later, didn't seem to affect my health.
In March of 1982 I took a drive around campus to capture some memories.
