Natality Columns
Birth and maternal health information by county
The NVSS makes county-level data available only for counties over 100,000 in population, with data for the rest of the counties in each state aggregated into Unidentified Counties categories. Data for unidentified counties for each state are included in unioned county polygons in the GeoJSON file.

- County of Residence: County where mother was a resident at the time of birth.
- GEOID: USCB GEOID for merging with USCB data. The county FIPS codes are the final five digits.
- Births: Total number of births
- Total Population: Total county population
- Birth Rate per 1k: Number of births in the county per 1,000 total population
- Female Population: Number of women in the county between 15 and 44 years of age
- Fertility Rate: Number of births in the county per 1,000 women 15-44
- Percent Total Births: Percent of total US births represented by births in the county
- Average Age of Mother: Years
- Average OE Gestational Weeks: Obstetrician estimate (OE) of the gestational age of the child at birth
- Average LMP Gestational Weeks: Gestational age of the child at birth based on the last menstrual period (LMP)
- Average Birth Weight Grams: Average birth weight in grams. Divide by 453.5 for pounds
- Average Pre-pregnancy BMI: Body-mass index of mother before pregnancy. A BMI of 18.5 to 25 is considered healthy

- Average Months Since Last Live Birth
- Average Months Since Last Other Pregnancy Outcome
