Selected Variables From the 2020 - 2024 American Community Survey 5-Year Estimates

CSV and GeoJSON files are available for states, counties, census tracts, and core-based statistical areas (CBSA).

Variable names for the data profile table variables are followed by USCB API variable names.

Geography

Polygons are from the USCB TIGER/Line cartographic boundary files.

• GEOIDFQ: Fully-qualified GEOID code composed of a prefix and FIPS code that can be used to unambiguously join with US Census Bureau data from data.census.gov.
• ST (STUSPS): USPS two-letter state code (states, counties, and tracts only)
• Name (NAME): State name / county name / tract name / CBSA name
• Latitude: WGS 1984 latitude of the centroid calculated from the area polygons with st_centroid()
• Longitude: WGS 1984 longitude of the centroid calculated from the area polygons with st_centroid()
• Square_Miles: Land area in square miles calculated by dividing ALAND + AWATER (square meters) by 2,589,988

Table DP02 - Selected Social Characteristics in the United States

• Total_Households (DP02_0001E): Total number of households
• Average_Household_Size (DP02_0016E): Average number of persons per household
• Percent_Single_Mothers (DP02_0038PE): Percent of women 15 to 50 years old who had a birth in the past 12 months who were widowed, divorced, or never married
• Percent_In_College (DP02_0058PE): Percent of population 3 years or older enrolled in college or graduate school
• Percent_Bachelors_Degree (DP02_0065PE): Percent of population 25 years or older with a bachelor's degree
• Percent_Graduate_Degree (DP02_0066PE): Percent of population 25 years or older with a graduate or professional degree
• Percent_Veterans (DP02_0070PE): Percent of population over 18 years of age that are civilian veterans of the armed forces
• Percent_Disabled (DP02_0072PE): percent of the total civilian noninstitutionalized population with a disability. Disability types include hearing difficulty, vision difficulty, cognitive difficulty, ambulatory difficulty, self-care difficulty, and independent living difficulty
• Percent_Foreign_Born (DP02_0094PE): Percent of population born outside the USA

• Workforce_Participation (DP03_0002PE): Percent of population 16 years and over in the labor force
• Percent_Unemployed (DP03_0009PE): Percent of civillian labor force unemployed. Note that this is a value captured in the survey period that may not accurately reflect either current or long-term structural conditions
• Percent_Commute_Alone (DP03_0019PE): Percent of workers 16 years or over that drive to work alone in a car, truck, or van
• Percent_Commute_Transit (DP03_0021PE): Percent of workers 16 years or over that commute to work by public transportation, exclusing taxicabs
• Percent_Commute_Walk (DP03_0022PE): Percent of workers 16 years or over that commute to work by walking
• Percent_Work_at_Home (DP03_0024PE): Percent of workers 16 years or over that commute to work at home
• Mean_Commute_Minutes (DP03_0025E): Mean travel time to work in minutes for workers 16 years of age and older

• Homeownership_Percent (DP04_0046PE): Percent of occupied housing units occupied by the owner
• Percent_Renters (DP04_0047PE): Percent of housing units occupied by a renter
• Percent_No_Vehicle (DP04_0058PE): Percent of occupied housing units where no vehicle is available
