Blackboard Collaborate Ultra

Blackboard Collaborate Ultra is a videoconferencing web app available as a tool in the Blackboard course management system.

This tutorial will demonstrate how to join course rooms and perform basic actions.

Joining a Course Room (Student or Instructor)

A Course Room is a place where instructors and multiple students can hold audio/video conferences.

• Click the Blackboard Collaborate Ultra link on your course home page or tools page.
• Click the Course Room.
• Click Join Course Room.
• If prompted to allow use of your microphone, allow it.
• If the app performs an Audio Test, speak some words to make sure the purple level bar indicates that your microphone is working. If it moves, click Yes, It's working.
• If prompted to allow use of your camera, allow it.
• If the screen shows your webcam is working, click Yes, It's working.
• Click the microphone icon at the bottom of the screen to share audio if you want people in the course room to be able to hear you. If there are a large number of people in the course room, you may want to leave this muted until you need to speak.
• Click the camera icon at the bottom of the screen to share your video if you want people in the course room to see you.
• Click the raise hand icon to get the attention of the instructor.

Joining a Session With a Link (Student or Guest)

You can also join a course room session if the instructor provides you with a link.

• Copy the link to the session provided by the instructor into a new browser window location bar.
• If prompted to allow use of your microphone, allow it.
• If the app performs an Audio Test, speak some words to make sure the purple level bar indicates that your microphone is working. If it moves, click Yes, It's working.
• If prompted to allow use of your camera, allow it.
• If the screen shows your webcam is working, click Yes, It's working.
• Click the microphone icon at the bottom of the screen to share audio if you want people in the course room to be able to hear you. If there are a large number of people in the course room, you may want to leave this muted until you need to speak.
• Click the camera icon at the bottom of the screen to share your video if you want people in the course room to see you.
• Click the raise hand icon to get the attention of the instructor.

Sharing a Screen (Student or Instructor)

You can share your screen with the course room so the instructor can see your work or diagnose problems.

If you do not see the option to share your screen, ask your instructor to send you a link where you can be a Presenter.

If you are an instructor, you can get a URL link to your course room that you can share with students or guests who are not in your class.
