Metro Rail Expo Line

Los Angeles, CA

The right-of-way for the Expo Line dates back to 1875 and the Los Angeles and Independence Railroad. The line was effectively (but not officially) abandoned by the Southern Pacific in 1989, and the passage of Proposition C in 1990 facilitated the purchase of the ROW by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority. Construction on the Expo Line light-rail line began in 2006 and service began between 7th Street / Metro Center and Culver City in 2012. A second phase extending to Santa Monica is scheduled for completion in 2015.
