This Spanish Mission Revival Style was built by the Southern Pacific Railroad. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. Amtrak moved its operations in 1998 to the a newly-built adjacent building and the station was repurposed as the event facility Sunset Station. The station is an anchor for the St. Paul Square Historic District.

The Sunset Limited joined with the Texas Eagle in San Antonio, TX with a 2:40 scheduled layover that, along with the pleasant April weather, gave me an opportunity to explore the area.

Southern Pacific locomotive 794 was built by the American Locomotive Company in 1916. The locomotive has a 2-8-2 Mikado configuration and delivered 53,630 pounds of tractive effort. The total loaded weight was 221 tons.
