This station was built by the Illinois Central Railroad. It originally had
five stub-end tracks and five through-tracks, and at various times served five
different railroads. The IC was the only remaining tenant when Amtrak took over
in 1971 and reduced service to one daily train. After flirting with demolition
in the 1970s and 1980s, the station underwent a significant renovation and
condominiumization in 1999. When I passed through in the 2000s and 2010s, the
stub-end track area had been converted to passenger drop-off and parking for
police vehicles, leaving only two through tracks along a single platform.
