Hunter Rye Ghost Sign / Liberty Warehouse
By far, the most majestic ghost sign I have ever seen in New York City was the richly-colored Hunter Rye sign that was exposed when 1930 Broadway (at 64th street) was demolished. The sign adorned the western wall of Liberty Warehouse, a structure from 1891 which itself was notable for having a replica of the Statue of Liberty on its roof. The warehouse became luxury apartments, although it is not clear if the building was entirely new or an enlargement of the warehouse. Regardless, the sign is almost certainly gone.
