West Side YMCA

5 West 63rd Street

Opened: 1930

Architect: Dwight James Baum

Aside from the recreational facilities traditionally associated with the YMCA, The West Side YMCA also included a 600-room guest facility, which, while somewhat spartan, was one of the best tourist deals in town.

The McBurney YMCA on 23rd Street (which moved in 2002 and stopped offering rooms) was the inspiration for the Village People's gay anthem Y.M.C.A.
