Brooklyn Bridge Approach

Although the acronym only includes the Manhattan Bridge, DUMBO is approximately bounded by Brooklyn Bridge on its southern edge, and the approach gives a nice view of the surrounding neighborhoods.

Cadman Plaza North and Cadman Towers are large bland residential towers that were designed by Morris Lapidus and built in 1967 and 1968 just south of the Brooklyn Bridge approach. They make a nice contrast to contemporary development in their reflection of the fortress mentality of the time, presenting blank walls to the street, protecting and isolating the buildings from the surrounding community. Although Brooklyn Heights had been declared a historic district prior to construction, the townhouses on these blocks had already been razed to construct the towers.
