This vaudeville and movie house is unique in that it was built as an independent venue, unlike most other houses that were built for circuits like Loew's and RKO. After WW-II, it was renamed Teatro Puerto Rico, specializing in Spanish-language variety shows and, later, wrestling. After being closed for a time, the theatre was triplexed in the 1980s by isolating and dividing the balcony for use with live and filmed entertainment. When I visited in 2009, it was apparently still a divided theatre with the main auditorium being used by a church, Iglesia Universal del Reino de Dios.
