Originally built by developer Louis Jaffe to house Maurice Schwartz's Yiddish Art Theatre, which presented Yiddish drama and works from world literature in Yiddish. Later served at various times as a movie theatre and live performance venue. Subdivided into seven screens and reopened in 1991.
The theatre is a couple of blocks north from the Yiddish Theatre Walk of Fame.
