Built by Henry and Irwin Chanin as the Mansfield Theatre. Named after producer/director Richard Mansfield. Briefly known as Lew Field's Mansfield Theatre in 1928. Idle from 1950-1960. Reopened and renamed for NY Times theatre critic Brooks Atkinson in 1960. Notable productions include: Present Arms (1928), Shuffle Along (1933), Come Blow Your Horn (1961), Lenny (1971), Same Time Next Year (1975), Talley's Folly (1980), Beyond Therapy (1982), Noises Off (1983), Death and the Maiden (1992).
