Zuccotti Park

This barren, unremarkable 33,000-square-foot parcel is not actually a park, but a privately-owned public space created in 1968 by US Steel in exchange for a height bonus on the building they were constructing at 165 Broadway. In 2006 it was renovated, reopened and named after John Zuccotti, the chairman of then-owner Brookfield Properties. It gained special notoriety when it was used for the Occupy Wall Street protests from 27 September to 15 November 2011.
