Castle Williams

Castle Williams was one of a series of fortifications built in the early 19th century to defend New York Harbor. This circular red sandstone fort was built between 1807 and 1811 and named after its designer, Jonathan Williams. It was under renovation when I visited in the Summer of 2010.
