Rumsey Playfield

The Rumsey Playfield is named after Mary Harriman Rumsey, sister of former NY governor Averell Harriman. The original park design for this area included a two-room stone cottage called the Ladies Refreshment House. Later the spot was the location for The Casino. Robert Moses had the Casino torn down in the 1930s and replaced it with a playground. In the 1990s, Summerstage took over the area as a venue for live music, effectively terminating its days as a playfield in everything but name.

Although there isn't normally much play on the Rumsey Playfield anymore, the slope down from the playfield on the north side makes a great incline for sledding when it snows.
