The Ramble

The Ramble is one of two forested areas, along with The North Woods, of rough terrain in the park - an almost surreal oasis within the context of this most urban of cities. The Ramble is located in the center of the park and it is almost possible to imagine yourself in some rural area while walking in the Ramble, except when the distant noises of the city occasionally bring you back to reality.

There is also the aura of menace while walking in such an isolated area in late evening or early morning. Since the 1970's, the Ramble has been known as a prime pick-up spot for gay men seeking casual relationships.

The Ramble includes The Gil, an artificial stream fed from the reservoir that empties into The Lake, on the southern boundary of The Ramble.
