Hans Christian Andersen (1805 - 1875) was a Danish writer who is best remembered for his fairy tales, including The Ugly Duckling and The Little Mermaid. This bronze larger-than-life-sized figure by Georg John Lober (1892 - 1961) was sponsored by the Danish American Women's Association with funds contributed by Danish and American schoolchildren and was dedicated in 1955 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Andersen's birthday.
