The 96th Street station is the northern terminus
unless/until Phase II of construction extends it to its final destination at 125th Street.
A few blocks of tunnels were actually dug north of 96th Street in the 1970s before
the city's fiscal problems stopped construction. The station will extend between
92nd Street and 97th Street with three planned station entrances: The SW corner
of 96th St., the NE corner of 94th St. and the SW corner of 94th St. Two buildings
were demolished: Century Lumber on the SW corner of 97th St. and a
brownstone on the NE corner of 93rd St.
