Park Avenue Bridge
The Park Avenue Bridge carries the Metro-North commuter rail lines across the Harlem River at 135th Street. It is a lift bridge with two parallel 340-foot double-track spans. There is no path for pedestrian traffic. The bridge opened in 1956 and was owned by numerous struggling rail companies before falling into the hands of the MTA. As with so much other postwar American infrastructure, the bridge power and lift systems are no longer operational.
