The Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine is the cathedral of the Episcopal Diocese of New York. Although initial discussions about building a Episcopal cathedral began in 1828, the cornerstone was not laid until 1892, and a variety of geopolitical and economic issues delayed completion and consecration of the entire length of the cathedral until 1941.
