Hotel Bellclaire
250 West 77th Street (at Broadway)
The Hotel Bellclaire is a 10-story, 240-room hotel that opened in 1903. The design by Emery Roth combines Art Nouveau and Secessionist style, with distinctive ornamental pilasters and bay windows. Like many such buildings on the Upper West Side, it went through a period of decline and service as a Single Room Occupancy hotel (SRO) before being returned to more conventional (and lucrative) tourist trade in the late 1990s.
