Rockefeller Center is a 19-building commercial complex spanning 22 acres between
48th to 51st Streets and Fifth Avenue to Seventh Avenue. The original 14 Art Deco
buildings were constructed by John D. Rockefeller between 1930 and 1939. The
building sit on land that was leased long-term from Columbia University.
The dominant tower is the 70-floor 30 Rockefeller Plaza, which
is the headquarters for NBC and houses most of the network's New York Studios.
An additional four International-style towers were built on the west side of
Avenue of Americas in the 1960s and 1970s. The complex also includes the 5,933-seat
Radio City Music Hall.
Rockefeller Central becomes Christmas Central during the holiday season as the
site of a massive decorated Christmas Tree.
