Kibbutz Lavi

Our lodging for the night was at the hotel at Kibbutz Lavi. Kibbutzim are Utopian group communities where members share resources in common to varying extents depending on the community. Many are tied by common orthodox religious beliefs.

Although Kibbutzim traditionally have a significant agrarian component, members of Kibbutz Lavi commonly had professional jobs, and the primary business of the Kibbutz proper was a small factory that made furniture for synagogues.

When I saw the Kibbutz on the itinerary, I had expected some kind of socialist hippie commune, but the accommodations and dining were largely the same as the other hotels we had stayed in thus far on our tour.
