Chinatown

Los Angeles, CA

Los Angeles' Chinatown is located north of downtown and just to the northwest of Union Station. It is actually the city's second Chinatown. Settlement of the original Chinatown began around 1857 and continued until the site was condemned for construction of Union Station that began in 1933. Simultaneous an ill-fated city effort to create the exoticized China City, a community-based effort (New Chinatown) had lasting success on a former storage yard purchased from the Santa Fe Railway. The area covered by Chinatown is a bit sparse, and time limitations make the collection below only vaguely representative.
