The Saginaw Civic Center was built in 1972 by the City of Saginaw as part of an urban redevelopment program and is the only structure from that effort that wasn't razed in the 1980s. The civic center also includes an arena that has hosted a number of different hockey teams. Facing severe economic problems, the city transferred ownership to county in 2001 and the center underwent an extensive and much needed renovation that was completed in 2003. The naming rights were sold in September 2004 and the facility was renamed the Dow Event Center. (2/26/02)
