Steelville, MO was a stop on a Frisco branch line that ran from Cuba, MO to Salem, MO. In the 1936 Official Guide of the Railroads, the line had daily (mixed passenger/freight) service. The line was used by the BNSF as late as 2002 to provide service to the AMAX lead mines in Viburnum. But with the discovery of serious lead contamination, the line was embargoed and the BNSF filed a petition in 2011 to discontinue service.
