230 West 78th Street
Future home to an overstuffed 19-floor tower,
The Linden 78.
Perhaps most notable for it's use of an internal
truss to cantilever the western part of the building
over an adjacent brownstone (housing the 78th Street
Theatre Lab and StandUp NY Comedy Club). The brownstone
was purchased with air rights in the 1970s when this
was a much less expensive neighborhood. Presumably,
this was a way to use the air rights while preserving
his own building.
