Donald Trump spent the first twelve years of his life in the Jamaica Estates
neighborhood. The affluent area was developed on 500 acres of land purchased in
1907 by developers Ernestus Gulick and Felix Isman. Gulick and Isman's early
partners included Lieutenant Governor Timothy L. Woodruff and NYC engineer and
contractor Michael J. Gegnon. The Elizabethan entry lodge and gatehouse was
designed by John J. Petit. The street system, with Midland Parkway as the
centerpiece, was designed by landscape architect Charles W. Leavitt.
