The Delacorte Theater

Central Park (around 80th street)

An outdoor ampatheatre located near Turtle Pond, just south of the Great Lawn, in Central Park. The Delacorte is use almost exclusively for the Public Theatre's free Shakespeare in the Park series each summer. The closest Park entrance from the East Side is Fifth Avenue at 79th Street; from the West Side, Central Park West at 81st Street. The theatre was originally built as a temporary structure in 1962 with a more permanent structure following a few years later. The theatre was extensively renovated in the late 1990s.
