Movie Theatres in New York CityNew York City has been home to hundreds of movie theatres ranging from ornate movie palaces built in the 1920s to short-lived storefront porn theatres in the 1970s. This section covers theatres that have spent some or all of their lives as venues for motion picture entertainment, with a focus on classic houses that have been restored, repurposed or demolished. Special emphasis is given to theatres in the Midtown theatre district which have generally had lower profiles than their live theatrical brethren. |
