Martin R. Kaufman Theater / Jose Quintero Theater

Producer Martin Kaufman bought this abandoned brownstone in 1985 and turned it into a 99-seat Art Deco theatre that he ran until his untimely death in 1996 at the age of 35. The theatre appears to have been renamed after director Jose Quintero, when he passed away in 1999. I was fortunate to catch some shots of the theatre in July 2006 because by December, it was gone and ultimately replaced by a neo-brutalist residential building.
