This Art Moderne movie house followed the ebb-and-flow of New York until finally being shuttered to regular operation by the opening of the 9-screen Chelsea Cinemas down the street in 1992. Since then it has always been a bridesmaid but never a bride. The Roundabout Theatre Company renovated it for live theatre and used it from 1999 - 2002 after losing their midtown home and before moving into the former American Place Theatre. The Museum of Modern Art used it for showing films while their midtown building was being renovated in 2003 / 2004. When I visited in 2006, it's last regular tenant had been the revue From My Hometown in 2004. In 2007 it was converted to a mid-size concert venue and renamed the Blender Theatre.
