Built as B.S. Moss's Colony Theatre (a movie house) by Benjamin S. Moss. Also Known as Universal's Colony Theatre (1926-1930), B.S. Moss's Broadway Theatre (1930-1932), Earl Carroll's Broadway Theatre (1932), Broadway Theatre (1933-1934), B.S. Moss's Broadway Theatre (again, 1935-1936), Cine Roma (Italian movie theatre 1937-1938). Opened as the Broadway Theatre in 1939 with the premiere of Disney's Fantasia. Notable productions include: The New Yorkers (1930), Earl Carroll's Vanities of 1932, Too Many Girls (1940), This is the Army (1942), Lady in the Dark (1943), Carmen Jones (1943), Up in Central Park (1945), Song of Norway (1946), Mr. Wonderful (1956), Most Happy Fella (1957), Gypsy (1959), Funny Girl (1966), Cabaret (1968), Evita (1979), Les Miserables (1987), Miss Saigon (1991).
