Alexander Hamilton

Just west of East Drive around 83rd Street - just east of the Great Lawn

Alexander Hamilton (1757 - 1804) was one of America's founding fathers, best remembered as the author of The Federalist Papers and as the Secretary of the Treasury to George Washington who built the foundation of the fiscal system of the new American government. This life-sized granite sculpture by Carl H. Conrads (1839 - 1920) was donated to the city in 1880 by Hamilton's grandson, John C. Hamilton.

Hamilton was killed in a duel across the Hudson in Weehawken, NJ. His home in what is now the Hamilton Heights neighborhood in Harlem (Hamilton Grange) has been preserved. Hamilton is buried in Lower Manhattan's Trinity Church cemetery. (reference)
