The New York City Waterfalls was a public art installation by
Danish artist Olafur Eliasson that consisted of four
man-made waterfalls inspired by the (often overlooked) waterways
that flow through the city. The work was intended to highlight our
relationship to the environment by dramatically juxtaposing beauty of
nature against the urban landscape. Funding for the project was provided
by a number of private and public sources, coordinated by the
Public Art Fund in collaboration with the City of New York
