Cana

(32.747, 35.339)

Cana is the traditional site of Jesus's first miracle, turning water into wine at a wedding reception (John 2). The Cana Wedding Church is a Catholic church built in 1881 on the spot the Franciscans believed was the site of this miracle. A period wine jar and excavation of ancient structures is located in the basement of the church.

Couples frequently come to the church to take part in group wedding or rededication ceremonies. Somehow the intimate presence of relatives with cameras and dozens of gawking tourists like us takes some of the magic out of the idea.
