Baha'i Garden and ShrineThe Baha'i faith was founded in Persia by Mirza Husayn Ali (1817-1892), known as Báha'u'lláh, and holds as its central belief the unity of mankind. Siyyid `Alí Muhammad Shírází (1819-1850), who went by the title of Báb, was one of three central figures of Baha'i faith and was martyred by the Persians at the age of 30. Báha'u'lláh's son had this mausoleum built in Haifa and reinterred the Báb's remains here in 1909. The surrounding hillside was built as a terraced garden that is maintained by Baha'i volunteers from around the world. |
