The Maynard Ferguson Discography

Walter Maynard Ferguson (4 May 1928 - 23 August 2006) was a Canadian musician and band leader. He is best remembered for his original style of playing in the extreme upper register of the trumpet, his exhuberant stage presence, his longevity as a touring band leader, and his influence on and encouragement of young musicians.

This site documents Ferguson's recorded music career. Information comes from Edwin Harkins 1976 discography, William F. Lee's 1997 biography, album liner notes, and a variety of internet sources, including Kurt Finchum's exhaustive MF Tour Dates website. Since some parts of Ferguson's ouvre have limited and/or unreliable documentation (especially his film/studio work and his recordings for small labels) this information has omissions and inadvertant inaccuracies. You are encouraged to contact me at the e-mail address above with proposed corrections or additions.

For many of us who came of age during his commercial zenith in the 1970s, Ferguson made a deep impression that has lingered long after his passing. This discography is a tribute to his body of work, and to the artists and fans who shared his remarkable seven-decade career.
