Bivouac and Hill 1062

38.3535052, 127.4535672

Although the exact location of this camp is unclear, references to Hill 1062 (Papasan) indicate it was in the Kumwhwa Valley of the Hantan River. This is presumably near Triangle Ridge, a V-shaped range of hills in the Kumhwa Valley that included the colloquially named Pike’s Peak, Jane Russell Hill, and Papasan, a 1,062 meter high mountain that dominates the valley. Hill 1062 contained tunnels where the Chinese Army housed their troops, artillery, and supplies. The area was later the site of the Battle of Triangle Hill, a bloody, protracted, and unsuccessful battle of attrition that was a serious blow to both UN morale and capabilities.
