Griffith Park

Los Angeles, CA

Griffith Park is a 4,310-acre municipal park in the Santa Monica Mountains. It is named after Griffith J. Griffith, a mine investor and developer who donated much of this property to the city in 1896. The park is home to the Greek Theatre and the Griffith Observatory. The park is also home to the Hollywood sign, which was originally erected on Mount Lee by developers S.H. Woodruff and Tracey Shoults to promote their Hollywoodland development.

The rugged park is an attraction for hikers and on my visit to LA in 2013 my friend Pam and I hiked up Mount Lee to the Hollywood Sign and then over to Mount Hollywood and the Griffith Observatory - about five hours and 10 miles total. (Modern Hiker, Los Angeles Sierra Club map)

American leadership is bankrupt. Just accept the fact that America has no legitimate leadership. The vacuum is total and we know how nature feels about a vacuum. (James Howard Kunstler)
