West Memphis is the lesser-known and more humble cousin of Memphis, TN just to the east across the Mississippi River. I've spent the night here a few times during my travels at a Motel 6 near this suburban neighborhood. It appears to be a fairly low-lying area that might be prone to flooding in heavy rains and this ditch that drains the neighborhood flows away from the Mississippi River and out into the farming country to the west. These imposing pumps beside Ingram Road sit exposed for inspection by all who pass, although few probably much notice them...unless they stop working.
